JCC holds information session on recent developments in Kazakhstan

Over the past 30 years, Kazakhstan’s continuous economic development has made it the region’s powerhouse and an important trading partner of Switzerland and the EU in Central Asia. After the unrest at the beginning of this year, the situation has stabilized rapidly. Nevertheless, the need for information on the part of the business community remains high, both on the events at the beginning of the year and on current developments and prospects.

On February 10, JCC in partnership with the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Switzerland held an online session to inform representatives of the Swiss business community about recent events in Kazakhstan and to update them on the country’s new economic course. The session opened with a welcome statement from Marcel Pawlicek, President, JCC. H.E. Mr. Alibek Bakayev, Ambassador of Kazakhstan to the Swiss Confederation made a statement about conditions in Kazakhstan. This was followed by a recorded video address by H.E. Mr. Bakyt Sultanov, Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan; Minister of Trade and Integration; Co-Chair of the Kazakh-Swiss Joint Intergovernmental Commission for Trade and Economic Cooperation Participants.

A panel of top-level representatives from Kazakhstan showcased current business environment and ongoing developments in industry and finance. They included Ardak Zebeshev, Chairman, Investment Committee, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, Meirzhan Yusupov, Chairman, Kazakh Invest Investment Promotion Agency and  Timur Onzhanov, First Deputy CEO, AIFC Business Connect Ltd (Astana International Financial Centre).

At the session moderated by Dorit Sallis, Managing Director, JCC there was a dynamic interaction between the audience of over 60 participants and the speakers who answered a series of questions on business-related procedures and plans in 2022 and beyond.
