Webinar on Central Asia and the Greater Caspian Region for Swiss Export

Central Asia and the South Caucasus has assumed growing strategic and business importance in recent years. This has been heightened not only by the pandemic but also Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and the resulting sanctions regime.

The opportunities of this region with a population of 640 million and rich in oil, gas, minerals and renewables was the topic of the SwissExport webinar on Central Asia organized in partnership with the Joint Chamber of Commerce Switzerland-Eastern Europe, Central Asia, South Caucasus (JCC) on August 29, 2024.

Ravshan Adilov, Partner, Centil Law gave an overview of the business landscape and sectors of opportunity of the 5 markets of Central Asia with an emphasis on Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. The logistics of exporting to and from the region, was the focus of Niklaus Kohler, Regional Managing Director, Middle East/ Central Asia, M&M Militzer & Münch.

The speakers concluded that the time is now to strengthen business ties with Central Asia and the South Caucasus Region. Otherwise, these exciting markets will orient themselves eastward to China and South Asia, and opportunities will be lost to Swiss markets.
