Stronger Together: Moldova launches honorary consulate in Zurich

On July 4, 2025, the Republic of Moldova celebrated the official launch of its Honorary Consulate in Zurich, marking a key step forward in enhancing Moldovan–Swiss cooperation, especially in the areas of economic diplomacy, cultural exchange, and diaspora engagement.

The event convened by Valentina Ceban, Honorary Consul of the Republic of Moldova in Zurich and Board Member of the JCC, brought together members of the diplomatic community, business leaders, and Swiss officials, all united by a shared commitment to building closer ties.

Key Remarks Were Delivered By:

Carolina Perebinos, State Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova, who emphasized Switzerland’s longstanding support and the strategic importance of this diplomatic expansion: “This symbolic moment represents not only the opening of a new representation in one of Europe’s most dynamic centers, but also our firm commitment to strengthening Moldova–Switzerland relations.”

Ambassador Vladimir Cuc, Moldovan Ambassador to Switzerland, highlighted the growing visibility this consulate brings to Moldova in Swiss public and economic life: “It will allow our country to become more visible and better known—an essential factor in promoting economic cooperation.”

David Weber, Head of the Smart City Department of Zurich, spoke about the importance of collaboration beyond national governments—between cities, communities, and innovation ecosystems.

Valentina Ceban, Honorary Consul of the Republic of Moldova in Zurich and JCC Board Member , expressed her pride and vision: “Switzerland has shown me how integrity, innovation, and precision can shape a prosperous society. Moldova is ready to grow together with you.”

Iurie Moraru, Vice President, Joint Chamber of Commerce Switzerland-Eastern Europe, Central Asia, South Caucasus JCC and Dorit Sallis, Managing Director were delighted to attend the event. In his statement to the guests, Iurie Moraru underscored Moldova’s great potential as a market in the JCC portfolio for Swiss business and affirmed that the launch of the Honorary Consulate complements JCC’s ongoing efforts to strengthen Swiss–Moldovan trade and investment ties.

The ceremony concluded with a networking reception and a tasting of Moldovan wines, offering guests a flavorful glimpse into Moldova’s rich cultural heritage.

This new diplomatic presence in Zurich kicks off an exciting new chapter in Moldova–Switzerland relations.
