Tajikistan, rich in resources and investment opportunities
Tajikistan is an important market in the Joint Chamber of Commerce Switzerland-Eastern Europe, Central Asia, South Caucasus (JCC)’s portfolio of 11 markets and we have been working steadily to bring the country’s opportunities to the attention of Swiss companies. The Tajikistan Business Webinar organised by JCC in partnership with the Embassy of the Republic of Tajikistan in Switzerland on June 18, 2024 was a continuation of this process.
H.E. Mr. Sharaf Sheralizoda, Ambassador of Tajikistan to Switzerland opened with an overview of bilateral business relations between both countries. H.E. Mr. Sherali Kabir, Minister of Industry and New Technologies discussed opportunities in the country’s industry and mining sectors. He was followed by Mr. Hakim Ismoilzoda, First Deputy Director, Agency on Innovation and Digital Technologies of Tajikistan, who showcased the country’s projects to develop a digital platform for government, banking and public services. The country’s priority sectors for investment and favourable business environment was illustrated by Mr. Jamolov Abdugahfor, Director, Investment Department, State Committee on Investments and State Property Management, Republic of Tajikistan.
Tajikistan as a market has a lot to offer. It is rich in water resources that are harnessed for hydropower, additional renewable energy sources and natural minerals. Other priority sectors include agribusiness, pharma, tourism, textile production and the digital economy. The country is strategically located between Asia and Europe and has a burgeoning young population.
The Government is investing in the business environment with newly developed industrial parks and clusters, further development of the energy sector and trade connectivity, the banking sector and digital technologies. These activities open the door for Swiss companies to get involved with products, services and know-how transfer.
