Understanding & managing risk in JCC’s target region

2024 promises to be a a challenging year, according to the global risk consultancy ControlRisks. The sheer number and diversity of crisis events will test the resilience of companies’ risk management functions on a new level. The risks lie in economic pressure and extreme weather feeding into more disruptive elections, state fragility, conflict, mutating cyber, digital and physical risks, geopolitical realignment and mushrooming regulation. Rather than leaning on traditional strategies and familiar ways of doing business, in 2024 companies will need to respond to a complex and volatile world. Opportunity and reward is there for companies that optimally understand and manage this web of risks.

In light of this risk landscape, JCC kicked off 2024 with a webinar on “Mapping and Managing Risks in 2024: The Cases of Kazakhstan and Ukraine”.  At the event on January 31, 2024 speakers from international risk analysis and management company Control Risks examined ways to identify opportunities and manage risk in 2024, especially in the context of geopolitical and economic turbulence.

At the webinar moderated by Dorit Sallis, Managing Director, Joint Chamber of Commerce Switzerland-Eastern Europe, Central Asia, South Caucasus (JCC), Harald Nikutta Partner, Control Risks introduced ControlRisks and highlighted the company’s strategic approaches and concrete measures to understand and manage risk in an unpredictable environment. Dr. Florian Otto, Director, ControlRisks assessed the risk landscape of Kazakhstan and Ukraine, focusing on the geopolitical and governance issues that present the greatest risks. Henry Smith looked at ways companies can be resilient and successful in these markets by addressing these obstacles in a careful and considered fashion.
