The new entry system digitalizes entry formalities and is ultimately intended to make entry faster and more secure. The formalities for entering Kazakhstan thus follow international trends. The ETA - "Electronic Travel Authorization" - is free of charge.

SCHEDULE

▪ 1 November 2026: Aktau International Airport and selected road border crossings ▪ 1 January 2027: International airports in Astana and Almaty ▪ 1 March 2027: All remaining border crossings ▪ 1 July 2027: The ETA becomes MANDATORY for entering Kazakhstan.

During a transitional phase until 30 June 2027, the absence of an ETA alone will not result in a denial of entry. However, travellers will be advised that they must apply for an ETA. From 1 July 2027, entry will be possible strictly only with an ETA.

HOW TO APPLY FOR THE ETA – 4 STEPS

1. Download the QazETA app from the App Store or Google Play, or visit qazeta.kz. 2. Register with your e-mail address or telephone number. 3. Scan your passport. The app can read the passport's NFC chip. 4. Enter the purpose of travel, the travel dates and your contact details, and submit the application.

Please submit the application at least 72 hours before crossing the border. The decision is usually communicated within a few minutes and at the latest within about 30 minutes.

THE ETA AT A GLANCE

✔ Free of charge ✔ Valid for 180 days ✔ Multiple entries possible ✔ One app for further relevant services, including e-Visa, E-Gate, health insurance and a local eSIM

PLEASE NOTE

▪ An ETA does not replace a visa where one is required. It neither extends the permitted duration of stay nor guarantees entry.

▪ Exempt from the ETA requirement are holders of diplomatic and service passports, accredited diplomats, members of official delegations, as well as persons with a valid Kazakh visa or a valid residence permit.

▪ Please always check the most up-to-date regulations before your trip at www.qazeta.kz.
