FDI Opportunities in Kazakhstan in the Spotlight at JCC Business Roundtable
JCC in partnership with the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Switzerland organized a roundtable titled “Kazakhstan 2023 – Launching a New Business Era: Reform, Privatization and FDI Opportunities” on April 27. The hybrid event which brought together distinguised business speakers from Switzerland and Kazakhstan took place at Hotel Bellevue Palace, Bern with participants logging in virtually from around the globe. The event was moderated by Dorit Sallis, Managing Director, JCC and kicked off with welcome statements from Jean-Paul Periat, President, JCC Western Switzerland and Honorary Consul of Kazakhstan in Switzerland and Catya Capaul, Project Manager, International Relations, economiesuisse.
Kazakhstan is a top priority market for our chamber because of its strategic location in the heart of Central Asia and sectoral opportunities that align with leading sectors of the Swiss economy, including MEM, infrastructure, food processing or medical technology, petrochemical and logistics/transportation. H.E. Mr. Kairat Sarzhanov, Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Switzerland welcomed participants and gave an introduction to the day’s topic with an overview of recent economic developments and business priorities of the Kazakh Government. Saken Olzhabayev, Representative in German, Kazakh Invest Promoetion Agency laid out the business climate in Kazakhstan and investment opportunities. The Astana International Financial Corporation was the focus of Temirlan Mukhanbetzhanov, Chief Client Officer and Managing Director, AIFC Authory. While transport networks between Europe and Asia via Kazakhstan were unpackaged by Leila Batyrbekova, Founder and Secretary General, Europe and Central Asia Transport and Trade Association ECATA. Several Swiss companies showcased their experience and know-how of operating in the Kazakh market including SGS, M&M Militzer & Münch and Stadler CIS. The roundtable culminated with the signing of an MoU between KazakhInvest and JCC, officially cementing our ongoing collaboration.
